YOUR DATA
Privacy, plainly.
HanziBear uses the information needed to let you sign in and keep your learning place. Last updated: 20 September 2026.
What we use
If you sign in, we use your email address to send a one-time login code and identify your account. We save your position in each book, words you add to your notebook, and dates you study so those features work when you return. We also count when you open lessons, flip cards, play audio, open Tips, and add or remove notebook words, and note when you last studied. If you email us, we receive the message and address you send it from.
Service providers
We use service providers for email sign-in, website hosting, and saving your learning progress. They process the information needed to provide these services.
Cookies and site usage
We use essential cookies to keep you signed in. We also review overall website traffic to understand how HanziBear is used.
Who can see your learning
Your HanziBear teacher can see your saved place, total study days, current notebook word count, and a summary of how you use the study features. Your teacher cannot see a mastery score because we do not calculate one.
Your choices
You can use the public preview without signing in. You can remove saved words from your notebook and sign out from Settings. For questions or requests about access to or deletion of your account and learning data, contact us. We may ask you to verify your identity before acting on a request.
Updates
If we add payments, subscriptions, or change how learning data is used later, we will update this notice before those features launch.
